Rotary Middle School Essay Contest: Security vs. Privacy
Rotarian readers rank record number of essay contest submissions the the annual Rotary Middle School Essay Contest. Rotary challenged middle school students to think critically and share their work with the community. This year students were prompted to think about the balance of security and privacy.
Essay Question: Write a 300 word expository essay on the following question: Cameras are everywhere, but should they be? Cell phone photography and surveillance cameras have become prevalent in most places. Video is increasingly used to deter crime or unwanted behaviors. When does the benefit of video surveillance pose a risk to personal privacy? What is more important, privacy or security? Explain your answer.

Rotary Club of Greater Corvallis Returns to Guatemala with Stove Team
President Tom leads a team of Rotarians and family members to help build efficient, safe stoves to deliver to rural villages in Guatemala. Rotary Rocks!
StoveTeam is a nonprofit organization that helps local entrepreneurs establish factories in Latin America. These self-sustaining businesses produce safe, affordable, fuel-efficient cookstoves to replace dangerous open cooking fires. Ecocina factories have produced more than 71,620 stoves, improving the lives of more than 537,150 people.
